Units of measure and conversions

Work with stock and purchase/make units while preserving the conversion used by each source document, so catalogue edits do not rewrite historical quantities.

These guides describe the shared FOR:CEO company engine. FOR:AGENT uses MCP for supported operations; examples involving browser forms refer to the included FOR:CEO human workspace. Check live capabilities and authorization before an agent runs a task.

Buy in one unit, keep stock in another

A supplier may sell cartons while the warehouse keeps individual units. Products define the stock/sales unit and the purchase/make unit, with the applicable conversion rules. Purchasing and manufacturing use their configured unit; stock availability is compared in stock units. This separates operational quantities from measurements such as package weight or inspection minutes.

Keep the original conversion with the document

A receipt, manufacturing activity or other source-linked child uses the authoritative source's saved conversion. Changing today's catalogue rate does not change what an earlier order meant. Product-specific conversion ownership also supports internal inventory items that do not yet have a finance-product link, preserving their identity if a sales link is added later.

What to know before you start

Configure units before operational use. The system does not guess missing historical conversions or silently revalue old movements using a new rate.

Practical questions

Will changing a conversion fix an old order?

No. Saved documents preserve their original interpretation. Historical inconsistencies need an explicit review rather than a catalogue overwrite.

Are package weights quantity conversions?

No. Package measurements, quality samples and operation durations are different concepts from product quantity units.
